1. WELCOME TO NADINE WEST AND THE NADINE WEST WAY

We have some new members on the team, so let me quickly review a few tenets of The Nadine West Way.

Our mission is to deliver happiness to the everyday woman. Nadine West is lucky to have such an amazing team to deliver on that promise.

You are all at your most amazing when you a) focus on deep work, b) focus on building good systems, and c) focus on customer happiness.

a. Deep Work: we avoid interrupting each other; we prioritize long periods of time for deep work, on important things; we prioritize those tasks that really move the needle; we avoid useless meeting; if we do all of this, there’s never a need to burn ourselves out

b. Focus on Systems: we focus on systems and trust that results will take care of themselves; instead of treating the symptoms, we chase down the root cause; we create permanent solutions; extra loud shout-out to Stephanie for redesigning our warehouse returns systems, which gave an immediate hyper-drive turbo-boost to returns numbers

c. Customer Happiness: Nadine West succeeds only because our customers love us as much as we love them; so far, we have the best customer ratings in the space, so keep on doing what you’re doing

5. FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME
Sidney and I (and all your team leads) are still learning on the job, every day. Sidney and I have made so many silly mistakes over the past 6 years, one day we will compile them into a book called “Best of Nadine West Fails!!” 

We all make mistakes, but what matters is that we remain open to self-improvement and seek feedback from others on how we can do better. 

If you have any suggestions for your team leads, please let them know. If you have any suggestions for me or for Sidney, please don’t be shy about pinging us on Basecamp and letting us know what you think.

As early as the first of September, celebrations of Christmas in many parts of the Philippines begin. It is very common to start hearing Christmas songs in the airwaves and seeing Christmas trees and decorations when September arrives–and they stay usually until January the following year.

For the Filipinos who celebrate Christmas, it is undoubtedly a very special occasion although each one may have their own meaning for it.

For example, Paul explains that “Christmas for me is a tradition which every year we celebrate love, gratitude and family.” For Maverick, “the core of observing Christmas is the celebration of life and the remembrance of struggles and challenges that I have weathered all throughout the year.”

December in many parts of the country can be filled with lots of parties. Sascha shares that, “we usually start organizing parties as early as November. Almost everyone I know spends Christmas Eve in their hometown so most parties are held on the weekends before that. And since it’s typical to attend around five parties, we arrange the schedule early.”

On Christmas Eve, Paul said that “we celebrate Christmas by preparing several special meals and then share it with family.”

“It has also become a tradition to be with my family when the clock strikes 12,” Maverick added.

Then on the 25th, people usually visit all their relatives and friends who live nearby. This can be a bit tiring that Maverick commented “if I can put everyone in one house my friends included, that would be best as I don’t really like hopping from one house to another.”

This year, however, celebrations might be a little different but Christmas will remain special. For sure there will be some changes because of the pandemic but personally, I still look forward to it. We might not be able to have lots of parties like we always do, but just to be with my family, share meals with them while listening to Christmas songs, that’s more than enough for me this year.

1. BIENVENIDO A NADINE WEST Y NADINE WEST WAY

Tenemos algunos miembros nuevos en el equipo, así que permítanme revisar rápidamente algunos principios de The Nadine West Way.

Nuestra misión es brindar felicidad a la mujer común. Nadine West tiene suerte de tener un equipo tan increíble para cumplir esa promesa.

Todos son más asombrosos cuando a) se enfocan en el trabajo profundo, b) se enfocan en construir buenos sistemas y c) se enfocan en la felicidad del cliente.

a. Trabajo profundo: evitamos interrumpirnos; priorizamos largos periodos de tiempo para un trabajo profundo, en cosas importantes; priorizamos aquellas tareas que realmente mueven la aguja; evitamos reuniones inútiles; si hacemos todo esto, nunca hay necesidad de quemarnos.

b.  Enfoque en los sistemas: nos enfocamos en los sistemas y confiamos en que los resultados se harán cargo de sí mismos; en lugar de tratar los síntomas, buscamos la causa raíz; creamos soluciones permanentes; Un saludo muy fuerte a Stephanie por rediseñar nuestros sistemas de devoluciones de almacén, lo que dio un impulso inmediato a los números de devoluciones.

c. Felicidad del cliente: Nadine West solo tiene éxito porque nuestros clientes nos aman tanto como nosotros los amamos; Hasta ahora, tenemos las mejores calificaciones de clientes en el espacio, así que continúe haciendo lo que está haciendo.

5. COMENTARIOS SIEMPRE BIENVENIDOS

Sidney y yo (y todos los líderes de su equipo) todavía estamos aprendiendo en el trabajo, todos los días. Sidney y yo hemos cometido tantos errores tontos durante los últimos 6 años que un día los recopilaremos en un libro llamado “¡Lo mejor de Nadine West falla!”

Todos cometemos errores, pero lo que importa es que permanecemos abiertos a la superación personal y buscamos comentarios de los demás sobre cómo podemos hacerlo mejor.

Si tiene alguna sugerencia para los líderes de su equipo, hágale saber. Si tiene alguna sugerencia para mí o para Sidney, no dude en enviarnos un ping en Basecamp y dejarnos saber lo que piensa.

Ya el primero de Septiembre comienzan las celebraciones navideñas en muchas partes de Filipinas. Es muy común comenzar a escuchar canciones navideñas en las ondas de radio y ver árboles y adornos navideños cuando llega Septiembre, y generalmente se quedan hasta Enero del año siguiente.

Para los filipinos que celebran la Navidad, es sin duda una ocasión muy especial aunque cada uno puede tener su propio significado.

Por ejemplo, Paul explica que “la Navidad para mí es una tradición que cada año celebramos el amor, la gratitud y la familia.” Para Maverick, “el núcleo de la celebración de la Navidad es la celebración de la vida y el recuerdo de las luchas y desafíos que he superado durante todo el año.”

Diciembre en muchas partes del país puede estar lleno de muchas fiestas. Sascha comparte que, “por lo general, comenzamos a organizar fiestas a partir de Noviembre. Casi todas las personas que conozco pasan la Nochebuena en su ciudad natal, por lo que la mayoría de las fiestas se llevan a cabo los fines de semana anteriores. Y como es típico asistir a unas cinco fiestas, organizamos el horario con anticipación.”

En Nochebuena, Paul dijo que “celebramos la Navidad preparando varias comidas especiales y luego las compartimos con la familia.”

“También se ha convertido en una tradición estar con mi familia cuando el reloj marca las 12,” agregó Maverick.

Luego, el día 25, la gente suele visitar a todos sus familiares y amigos que viven cerca. Esto puede ser un poco agotador que Maverick comentó “si pudiera poner a todos en una casa, incluidos mis amigos, sería mejor, ya que no me gusta ir de una casa a otra.”

Este año, sin embargo, las celebraciones pueden ser un poco diferentes, pero la Navidad seguirá siendo especial. Seguro que habrá algunos cambios debido a la pandemia, pero personalmente, todavía lo espero con ansias. Puede que no podamos tener muchas fiestas como siempre lo hacemos, pero solo para estar con mi familia, compartir comidas con ellos mientras escucho canciones navideñas, eso es más que suficiente para mí este año.
